A Dominant Performance, From Van Den Berg

The second round of the 2017 Hankook SA National Formula Vee Championship, saw reigning SA National Champion Gert Van Den Berg (BP Nantes Motors Rhema 2), take pole position, 0.235 of a second, ahead of Siyabonga  Mankonkwana (Cervinia Investments Rhema 2) who was  competing in only his third, SA National Formula Vee Championship race meeting! Van Den Berg, then went on to win both of the races, on the day!

At the start of both Heats, Van Den Berg went straight to the front and stayed there, leaving those behind him to fight it out among themselves, for the other points scoring positions. Ex SA National Champion Jaco Schriks (Rhema 2), Mankonkwana, Lendle Jansen (Bull Security Rhema 2), three times SA National Champion Peter Hills (Lubfusion Rhema 2) and Lushen Ramchander (Miami Products and Services Forza), all fought a torrid battle, behind Van Den Berg, with at least three of them, leading the bunch across the line, during the course of the race.

In the end, it was Mankonkwana who took the chequered flag, in second place, ahead of Schriks, Peter Hills, Jansen, Ramchander, Ross Rugheimer, Brandon Hills, Fred Rugheimer, and Shane Helberg (Shanbergracing Forza), one lap down. After Ernie Vermark had retired, five laps into the race, with a mechanical problem.

In the second heat, the full field went the whole distance, with everyone finishing the race, on the same lap as the winner, including Vermark and Helberg who, had both remained unlapped, this time around.

For the second heat, Van Den Berg beat Mankonkwana to the line, by 3.164 of a second, with Schriks a further 0.763 behind and they were followed home, by Peter Hills, Jansen, Brandon Hills, Ramchander, Ross Rugheimer, Vermark, Fred Rugheimer and Helberg.
